Petkim becomes a member of the Industrial Liaison Program (ILP) of MIT


Petkim, the first and the only integrated petrochemical company of Turkey, joined the Industrial Liaison Program (ILP) of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, one of the top-notch technical schools of the world specialized in technology, R&D and chemistry.  The membership allows for the exploration of mutual interests for a period of two years starting in August. Petkim has become one of the 250 global companies involved in the ILP program.



Petkim, a subsidiary of SOCAR Turkey, joined the Industrial Liaison Program of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), which is a leading university of the world in the fields of technology and engineering, with the objective to help transform its R&D activities and strategic research that would contribute to the development of the industry to the global arena. During the course of the program, created by MIT for the purpose of establishing and strengthening liaison mutually with companies around the world in knowledge and technology, Petkim will focus on specific research fields that are of strategic importance.  The first phase of the MIT-ILP membership, which is very significant in terms of projects in digital transformation and innovation, two of the strategic priorities of Petkim, will continue for a period of two years. The period may be extended on a mutual basis, depending on the requirements for the projects to be carried out.
As part of the program, the faculty and researchers of MIT and the R&D and Production units of Petkim will explore potential project-related interests beginning in August. In September, specialists from Petkim will visit the USA and attend meetings to be held at MIT. The activities focused on exploration of mutual interest will continue throughout the year. Thanks to its direct employment of 2.500 individuals and also its net sales over 7 billion Turkish Liras in 2017, Petkim aims to carry its leading position and experience in the industry further by means of the broad application and human resources infrastructure support provided by MIT in global R&D and engineering projects.

Thanks to its ILP membership, Petkim ranked among the 250 global companies which broaden the research agenda of MIT and which are leaders of their industries. 
Petrochemistry industry plays a strategic role in production processes of all industries from construction to agriculture, and from textile to pharmaceutical industry. Today, petrochemical products form the basis of modern production.  Therefore; petrochemistry is one of the most important factors to help countries to establish a strong economy which does not rely on international sources.
Incorporated in 1965, Petkim maintains its business operations as the first and only integrated petrochemical producer of Turkey. Producing approximately 60 petrochemical products at its production facilities in Aliaga, Izmir, Petkim provides contributions to national industry and production.
SOCAR Turkey acquired and made Petkim focal point of its investments in 2008, which in return yielded an increase by 87% on USD basis in its corporate value. Petkim is also among the top-ranking industrial enterprises and exports leaders across Turkey.
The petrochemical products, produced by Petkim, are used in several industrial branches such as automotive, electrics, electronics, agriculture, packaging, textile, pharmaceutics, paints, construction, detergent and cosmetics. Satisfying the production and developments needs of industries with its innovative and high-quality products, Petkim touches every sphere of life with its production volume of annual gross production of 3.6 million tons.
